In this day and age the reality of securing a job that you will be at for decades is practically non-existent. You must always be prepared to be a job seeker even if you like your currently position. There might be layoffs, unexpected downsizing, company restructuring, or you are simply looking for growth in your career. Whatever the reason being prepared is essential. That means having a resume eKit is not only a great idea it’s a must. Here’s how you can assemble your own on-the-go resume eKit.

You need an updated Resume

Does your resume need updating? Review any new experiences that you might have had, or new jobs or training/education. Try to make it as complete and up-to-date as possible! Keep it at a 2-page maximum and include a coverletter. Be sure to high-light any important skills, projects, accolades or experiences that may separate you from other candidates when applying for a job.

Portfolio essentials

Did you create and execute any amazing projects as an entrepreneur or at your job? Definitely include that in your portfolio–be sure to expand on it and include any quantifiable data to show your end results. Images and charts are also good things to include in your portfolio. Also include anything in your portfolio that you feel expands on your resume and your accomplishments!

Updated references

Make sure your references are updated and contact them to ask if they can give you a reference if someone calls them. Although you don’t initially give references off the bat to prospective employers, keep them updated and ready just in case a job opportunity/interview comes up and they want to contact them asap!

Neat and ready!

All these files can be saved on one pdf file or separate files. Also be sure to have different resumes for different jobs. For example, one geared for customer service/sales and another perhaps in private tutoring and then a third one being a generic resume. Remember: it’s always good to be prepared.
