One of the best ways to finding a job is through networking. Networking doesn’t have to be a chore–it can be a lot of fun! Some amazing results from successfully networking is meeting new people, learning new things and building opportunities job and career wise.
Networking doesn’t take any special skills or talent. If you’re shy or often refrain from groups this can be a golden opportunity to come out of your shell and start being a bit more social. Even if you meet one person and have a good connection (at a networking event) that is a win for you. Networking isn’t necessarily getting as many connections as you can, but it’s about the strong and ever-lasting professional (and even personal) connections you can make.
To be a successful networker you have to be willing to go out there and meet new people. You have to have a good sense of yourself and what you want from life and your career–if you are still getting a footing on both accounts go to these networking events with close friends and people you trust.
You also need to be personable, positive and listen more than talk. People want to talk about themselves so let them! And remember to always be open to new opportunities!
And finally always be willing to find ways in how you can help those you meet. Do you know how to do something well? Offer someone a minute of your time at a later date to help them out! Always be helpful. People always respond kindly and want to help someone who cares!
